Reactie NWBA op IPCC rapport ‘Global Warming of 1,5 °C’

De Nederlandse Waterstof & Brandstofcel Associatie NWBA ziet in het op 9 augustus gepubliceerde rapport van het IPCC goede conclusies en aanbevelingen. Naast de algemene boodschap – actie! – wijst Hoofdstuk 4 onder de titel ‘Strengthening and implementing the global response’ op het belang van waterstof in de gewenste aanpak. De NWBA onderschrijft de standpunten dat ‘Electrification, hydrogen, bio-based feedstocks and substitution, and, in several cases, carbon dioxide capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) would lead to the deep emissions reductions required in energy-intensive industries to limit warming to 1.5°C. ‘ en deelt tegelijkertijd de zorg dat innovatie vanwege angst voor marktverstoring wordt beperkt: ‘Except for energy efficiency, costs of disruptive change associated with hydrogen- or electricity-based production, bio-based feedstocks and carbon dioxide capture, (utilization) and storage (CC(U)S) for trade-sensitive industrial sectors (in particular the iron and steel, petrochemical and refining industries) make policy action by individual countries challenging because of competitiveness concerns.’
