Nedstack sells world’s largest PEM fuel cell power plant

Nedstack fuel cell technology B.V. (Nedstack) has signed the final contract for delivering the world’s first 2MW PEM fuel cell power plant. This 2MW PEMFC unit will be installed at the site of Ynnovate Sanzheng (Yingkou) Fine Chemicals Co. Ltd in Yingkou, Liaoning province, China. Waste hydrogen is produced in a chlor-alkali process and will be utilized on site for the generation of 2MW of electricity. With Nedstack’s PEM power plant technology 20% of the customer’s energy consumption can be regained. Since no green house gasses are emitted in this process, this unit is substantially contributing to a greener environment.

After being the first to install a 1MW PEMFC unit (at Solvay Belgium in 2011) Nedstack is once more leading in the market for stationary PEM fuel cell applications. Nedstack is working together with Akzo Nobel Industrial Chemicals and MTSA Technopower in this project and is supported by the European Union FCH-JU program. A delegation of all parties involved attended the signing ceremony on January 9, 2015 in Shanghai.

Nedstack is a Dutch independent fuel cell manufacturer, who produces Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) fuel cells for stationary applications, such as telecom backup and PEM power plants, as well as for heavy duty transport. Founded in 1998 as a spin-off of Akzo Nobel, Nedstack has been able to deploy significant numbers of PEM fuel cell stacks in the world, gaining extensive experience on PEM fuel cell operation for different applications. Nedstack has shown very long lifetimes of their products in PEM power plants.
