Developing the supply chain for electrolysis

On the 12th of March 2019, VoltaChem organizes a workshop on opportunities in the electrolyzer supply chain. We aim to accelerate innovation in component development for electrolyzers by involving the supply chain. However, to become part of the supply requires knowledge of the market, understanding of the technical challenges, and infrastructure for testing novel components. What to expect

The workshop is organized to create cooperation between and with innovative companies with an interest in the field of PEM electrolyzers. Electrolyzers will require high-tech components, such as membranes, catalysts, current collectors, sealings, etc. In addition, fabrication of these components in high volume leads to the need for high-tech manufacturing technologies in the field of coating, metal forming, etc. All in all, it is expected that a mature electrolyzer market, will offer interesting opportunities for high-tech companies.

The objective of our work on PEM electrolyzers at VoltaChem is to lower the cost of the electrolyzer and the cost of green hydrogen. This requires less expensive components. However, the challenge is to develop less expensive components which meet durability targets under the operating conditions of the electrolyzer. The basis of our work is therefore to obtain in-depth knowledge of the degradation processes in the cell.

The workshop will focus on bringing you up to speed on three topics:

1. What are the technical challenges in the PEM electrolyzer?
2. What are expectations with respect to the cost level of future electrolyzers and their components?
3. What are the potential markets, the key drivers, and uncertainties?

For who

The workshop is exclusively for technology and component suppliers who are – or planning to become – active in water Electrolyzes market. It will provide an interactive process with the aim to identify opportunities for future business. If the results of this 1st session are worthwhile for the participants, we propose to organize more events about specific electrolyzer topics and issues.

Practicalities

The workshop will be held in Petten (Westerduinweg 3, 1755 LE) from 12:30 to 17.00 hrs and will include a lab tour of the facilities.  The number of participants for this interactive workshop will be limited (50).
